Extended Period of Eligibility (EPE)

The Extended Period of Eligibility, or EPE, is a 36-month (3 year) period that starts after the Trial Work Period (TWP) ends. During this timeframe, you are eligible to receive full benefits for months where gross earnings are below the Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA) level. Social Security will suspend cash benefits for months where earnings exceed over the SGA level. If your earnings fall below the SGA level in the re-entitlement period, Social Security can start benefits again.

EPE is not applicable to those receiving SSI benefits.
