Closed Period of Benefits

Closed Period of Benefits, also called a closed period of disability, is the period of disability with a definite beginning (onset) and a definite ending date that the adjudicator establishes. If you are awarded for a closed period of benefits, you will only receive benefits for the months you were deemed completely unable to work, with a minimum requirement of 12 months.

A closed period claim must meet all the same criteria as a person applying for ongoing benefits, but must also be filed within 14 months following the end of the disability.
