Benefit Verification Letter

A benefit verification letter for SSDI, not to be confused with a Notice of Award or NOA, is an official document a claimant may request from the Social Security Administration (SSA). It is sometimes also referred to as a “Proof of Income Letter,” a “budget letter,” or a “benefits letter.” The letter is provided free of charge by the Social Security Administration and provides an overview of the Social Security monthly benefits that they’re currently receiving.

The letter also displays what the gross monthly benefit amount would be, and the net amount after Medicare or federal taxes are deducted. The benefit verification letter for SSDI also goes on to lay out when the claimant will receive their monthly payments. Please note that the exact content of the letter can vary slightly depending on the specific type of benefits received (e.g., retirement, disability, survivor).

The letter doesn’t just break down the benefits a person is getting; it also works as proof that they’re receiving Social Security payments. Banks, landlords, and government programs might ask for it as proof of income when someone applies for a loan, mortgage, rental, or assistance. Please be aware that while this letter proves income, some financial institutions may require additional documentation. It is important to remember that this letter cannot be used in all financial transactions.

Claimants can get a benefit verification letter for SSDI by signing up on the official SSA website. Setting up an account requires a Social Security number along with some other personal details. It’s a quick process, but having the right info on hand makes it
