Staying Up to Date with MySocialSecurity

Lauren Brizzi

May 27, 2025

The SSDI application process can be lengthy, as hundreds of thousands of individuals apply for these benefits every year. As one of many steps toward improving this process and helping individuals and families receive financial security sooner, the Social Security Administration (SSA) launched a function called the “my Social Security” system. This online portal allows individual claimants to track the status of a claim or appeal from the convenience of their computer or mobile device.

Benefits of My Social Security Account

If you have or create a free “my Social Security” account, you can:

  • See the date when your application was filed
  • View the current location of your claim
  • Access scheduled hearing dates and times (if applicable)
  • Retrieve re-entry numbers for incomplete applications
  • View decisions made on your claim

As of 2025, the SSA continues to expand the features available in the “my Social Security” portal. You may now also:

  • Upload certain requested documents directly to your claim file
  • Update your contact information in real time
  • Opt -in for electronic notices instead of mailed letters
  • View payment dates and benefit estimates for retirement, disability, and survivors’ benefits
  • Receive alerts about status changes or hearing updates

Advocator Advantage and Your “my Social Security” Account

Advocator Advantage is prohibited from logging into this account on your behalf, however, we encourage you to create an account because you may be able to see progress that the SSA has made on your claim online before they are able to send out an official notice to you and to us. This account could also help you manage any other Social Security needs you have related to other types of benefits as well, including Medicare enrollment, benefit verification letters, and address changes.

Accessing and Managing “my Social Security”

Please note: The “my Social Security” account is secure and managed solely by the SSA. You can sign in to or create an account by visiting the official SSA website and following the step-by-step identity verification process.

Nothing in this post is intended as advice or a suggestion to elect or not elect to claim benefits of any kind, including Social Security benefits, nor is it intended as financial advice in any way. The decision to claim benefits is a personal one that is contingent upon each individual’s unique circumstances.
