December 3rd is International Day of Persons with Disabilities

By Lauryn December 3, 2021

“Realizing the rights, agency, and leadership of persons with disabilities will advance our common future.”
– António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations

Each year on December 3rd, International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) is observed. This year, and every year, The Advocator Group honors and supports the inclusion of persons with disabilities.

First proclaimed by the United Nations in 1992 as “International Day of Disabled Persons,” each year, IDPD aims to promote the understanding of disability issues while mobilizing support for the dignity, rights, and well-being of persons with disabilities. IDPD also seeks to increase awareness and support of the inclusion of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic, and cultural life.

This year the theme of International Day of Persons with Disabilities is “Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world.” With the theme, there is a particular focus on closing the gap of inequality surrounding access to health care, education, and employment. Those with disabilities are among the most impacted during times of crisis, and the COVID-19 pandemic has only exposed how much persons with disabilities are excluded in these very important areas. An integrated approach to the pandemic will ensure that persons with disabilities are not left behind. Disability inclusion will result in a COVID-19 response and recovery that better serves everyone, by producing more agile systems capable of responding to complex issues.

Our team at The Advocator Group (now operating as Brown & Brown Absence Services Group) has the unique opportunity to help persons with disabilities navigate a particularly emotional and challenging time in their lives as they apply for disability benefits in efforts to replace lost income and help secure their family’s financial future. We take great care in the work we do in support of persons with disabilities and remain committed to doing so in the future.
